My Story
From the Court to the Camera
I was born in Ventura, CA but lived my whole life in Santa Paula. I went to school and played basketball at Santa Paula High School, class of '06. From there, I played college basketball at College of the Sequoias in Visalia, CA for two seasons before signing a Division 1 scholarship at California State University, Bakersfield, where I played out my college career. During my two years at Bakersfield, I competed against future NBA players like Paul George and Lance Stephenson, and played powerhouse programs like UCLA and Gonzaga.
After college, I thought my basketball career was over — but I ended up trying out for a professional team in Mexico and was signed on the spot. I spent the next three years playing professional basketball in Mexico, living out my childhood dream. It was there that I discovered my love for photography. I needed a way to make money in the offseason while maintaining a flexible schedule to train, so I picked up my first camera in June of 2015 — the Sony a6000, a tiny but mighty beast that I still have today.
I started off thinking I was going to shoot sports, but I kept finding myself drawn to portraits — especially the details of close-up shots. That's when I fell in love with headshots and the variety of people I got to work with, from actors to doctors, lawyers, and real estate professionals.
There's a saying that athletes die twice — the day they retire, and the day of their actual death. Photography replaced my passion for basketball and gave my life purpose again. It's been quite a journey, and I enjoy every second of it and all the relationships I've built along the way.
